The required knowledge, skills and abilities would typically be acquired through education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Public or Business Administration, Health Care Administration or a closely related field; possession of a California Registered Nurse license and a minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience in a critical/ progressive care, emergency or perioperative/operating room setting within an acute care hospital, preferably an academic medical center, including a minimum of two(2) years experience in a administrative/supervisory role. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of organization, administration, human resource and financial management; Basic principles of health care and hospital system organization and administration, including planning and delivery of Critical Care, Emergency, Perioperative and Administrative Services; Regulations and laws common to the operation of hospitals and health care organizations in California and accreditation program requirements; Principles and practices of management, supervision and performance evaluation; Current trends regarding budget, financial and administrative systems, and methods for assessing and resolving operational system issues; and Current standards and trends in clinical nursing practice as well as systems for safe, quality patient care operations Ability to: Effectively plan, organize, manage, staff, and direct Critical Care, Emergency and Perioperative services in an academic medical center; Direct, prioritize and manage comprehensive projects, and implement and monitor large systems and change processes; Administer, coordinate and supervise systems to support the human resource and financial management of a large hospital department; Learn and apply the medical center's policies, regulations and administrative procedures in the context of position functions; Work effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary leadership and management team; Work effectively with diverse client and community populations in planning and overseeing departmental operations; Serve as designee, in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer; and Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
