  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in general clerical/secretarial experience. Any combination of education and/or work experience will substitute for minimum qualifications.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department ( PARD ) provides protects and preserves a park system that promotes quality recreational, cultural and outdoor experiences for the Austin community.

The Administrative Associate position is a temporary position scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week - not to exceed 1040 total hours per year. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide administrative support and monitor the aquatics facility during scheduled hours.
  • Performing payroll and timekeeping functions including entering, auditing and reconciling employee timesheets.
  • Provide customer information.
  • Cash handling and record keeping.

Physical Requirements:
  • Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant's needs and safety issues.

Pay Range
$15.00 per hour.

Thursday - Sunday, variable schedule - up to 20 hrs per week.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cash handling, record keeping and file maintenance.
  • Experience performing payroll and timekeeping functions including entering, auditing and reconciling employee timesheets.
  • Experience with the Banner Timekeeping system.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment with changing demands.
  • Excellent writing/composition skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to multitask, are preferred.
  • Experience communicating clearly and concisely in person, by phone, email, etc., while exercising tact, patience and discretion in a professional demeanor.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and communities, including interacting with individuals of diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (read, writing, speaking).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

  • Greet visitors and provide information about the aquatics facilities and the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Answer phone and route calls to specific people.
  • Performing payroll and timekeeping functions including entering, auditing and reconciling employee timesheets.
  • Take and relay messages
  • Cash handling and processing payments.
  • Assist with facility reservations.
  • Assist with program marketing.
  • Coordinate mail flow in and out of office.
  • Send email and faxes.
  • Open center and/or close center.
  • Ensure reception area is clean.
  • Cleaning duties as assigned.
