The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning is offering an exciting career opportunity for experienced civil engineering professionals interested in the position of Supervising Engineer.
Supervising Engineers, reporting to a division manager, plan, direct, and manage the operations of a section or sections within the Department of Public Works and Planning. Responsibilities include planning, directing and supervising staff engaged in a variety of professional and technical civil engineering duties. Supervisory duties include selecting, training, developing, assigning and reviewing work; evaluating and disciplining subordinate staff; and communicating division policy and objectives to staff.
The current Supervising Engineer vacancy exists in the following division:
Road Maintenance : The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of 3,488 miles of roadways and 570 bridges. The Division is also responsible for all traffic engineering studies, sign shop operations, encroachment permits, transportation permits and traffic control plans.
Note : The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity. This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
