The Liberal Studies Department in the College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to fill a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position in Social Foundations of Education, beginning September 10, 2020. The mission of the Liberal Studies undergraduate degree is to provide a solid preparation in science, mathematics, language arts, social sciences, art, physical education/health, and human development for future elementary and middle school teachers. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Candidates must be committed to high-quality teaching, continuing scholarship, and university service. Successful candidates must be committed to high-quality undergraduate education and will be expected to develop and maintain an active undergraduate research program. Special areas of interest include social foundations, social justice education, and diversity and inclusion in K-8 schools.
The successful candidate will be expected to do the following: 1) teach social foundations of education to future elementary school teachers in the Liberal Studies Department, 2) take on a leadership role in advancing the department's work in inclusivity, diversity, and social justice education, 3) engage in scholarly activities and grant development; provide service to local, university, and professional communities, 4) collaborate with higher education and K-12 partners, 5) demonstrate strong commitments to effective teaching practices and professional growth, 6) and provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations.
