Anticipated Hiring Range*
$4,326 to $4,807 per month ($51,912 to $57,684 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary*
This position is reporting to the Associate Controller. Under the lead of Senior Bank Accountant, the Accountant I performs a wide range of accounting and analytical functions with the understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and CSU policies and procedures. The incumbent will prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports, statements, and records for completeness with the specifications of standard practice, internal controls, and established policies and procedures. The incumbent will identify and resolve accounting problems associated with incorrect entries, deviations from established procedures, and other inconsistencies with accounting principles; and prepare various financial reports, financial statements, and banking schedules. The incumbent must be able to resolve and communicate effectively on complex accounting problems related to the cashiering system, finance system, and student financial system. The incumbent will provide cross training and support to team staff.

Position Information
- Perform technical accounting functions, analysis, review, research and reconciliations for general accounting, student financial accounting, daily banking transactions, advance payments, cash management schedules, and misc. recharges. Manage university unclaimed property and escheatment, check replacement requests, cash posting orders, petty cash, and change funds accountability. Provide input and cross training for accounting functions and operations; provide backup support to other professional and/or technical staff in Fiscal Affairs/Accounting.

- Perform general accounting support, functions, journal entries and technical work requiring the application of both knowledge and judgment in using GAAP, internal controls, and CSU policies and procedures. Reconcile, analyze, interpret financial data and prepare financial reports to ensure discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.

- Prepare GAAP journal entries, worksheets and schedules.

Minimum Qualifications*
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

General knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal control methods; office methods and procedures; statistical and mathematical presentation of data; advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems.

Ability to interpret and follow accounting procedures, policies, standards, and principles to make sound judgment in solving accounting problems; utilize problem solving techniques in research; maintain good etiquette and collegial working relationships within a diverse academic and multi-cultural working environment; and communicate effectively with others inside and outside of the unit, including conveying technical information to non-accountants.

Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 1+ years of experience in higher education and fund accounting.
- Experience working with auditors and preparing audit schedules.
- Advanced computer skills with computer applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Access, financial accounting software).
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience of cash management systems, banking activities reconciliation, and PeopleSoft financial system for general ledger, accounts receivable and billing, and student financials.
- Knowledge of State Administrative Manual, CSU policies and procedures, SCO reporting, government accounting methods, rules, and regulations.
