The Health Services Specialist II performs basic medical procedures and specialized detention work in the care and security of inmates to ensure their constitutional rights and welfare are safeguarded in the County Jail.Work involves responding to emergency and non-emergency medical calls or requests in the County Jail, performing medical screenings, performing patient chart documentation duties, and distributing medications as prescribed. Examples of Duties Performs medical procedures on inmates including vital signs assessment, phlebotomy, medication administration, and physician consultation for care plan direction. Performs various assessment on inmates to determine health status, including evaluations for strep throat, TB, blood glucoselevels, and urinalysis. Performs medical screenings on inmates and charts all findings; maintains files and records as needed; creates patient charts and charts documentation of orders and actions taken. Assists physicians and completes physician consultation for patient care directives as needed. Ensures that the infirmary is kept clean and neat; ensures that all medical equipment is in proper working order. Oversees administrative duties of department, including sending and receiving information such asmedical records, scheduling doctor's appointments, scheduling interviews, purchasing supplies, preparing the budget, ensuring proper file maintenance, creating reports, processing medical claims, speaking with concerned family members, administering payroll, and any other duties requested. Distributes prescribed and over the counter medications to inmates. Monitors patient activity and movement within infirmary; monitors and supervises cleaning duties of infirmary trustees. Screens or previews incoming phone calls and provides information compliant with department policy and procedures, or refers callers to appropriate personnel or agencies; records and routes messages for department personnel when necessary. Processes inmate billing from outside providers as necessary; ensures bill is for proper amount. Administers shots for inmates receiving medication or immunizations. Administers wound care for patients with lacerations, cuts, bruises, or other injuries that require medical attention. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of age. Must be a United States citizen. High School Diploma or GED and a minimum two years of experience in a related field OR Certification as a Paramedic, Licensed Vocational Nurse, or Registered Nurse; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Possession of a valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment. About Our Job The Denver Fire Department Fire Academy is currently accepting applications for Health & Wellness Internships for Fall 2019. The opportunity is available from September 2019 - December 2019. Students will be required to work the full amount of hours in order to fulfill the credited hours of the college or university (typically 405 hrs.). These part-time internship hours are flexible between 6am-4pm, Monday through Friday with some weekend events. It is ideal for the Intern to commit to 25 hours per week. The location for this internship is at the Denver Fire Department Fire Academy located at 5440 Roslyn in Denver. The Intern will assist and work alongside the Senior Physical Therapist and Wellness Coordinator. The intern will earn experience in all aspects of physical therapy and fitness field while being emerged in the fire department culture. Under general supervision, the Nurse Practitioner provides obstetric and gynecologic services such as conducting complete physical examinations, developing diagnostic impressions and managing care of patients in our busy OB/GYN practice. The ideal candidate is a highly independent and reliable practitioner with license and certification as an FNP or WHNP, furnishing privileges and a minimum of two years recent experience delivering prenatal, postpartum and gynecologic care to a diverse population including placement of LARC's, screening and treatment of STI's, well woman exams, and menstrual irregularities. This is an extra help position designed for coverage of vacations and medical leave at three San Mateo outpatient locations in Redwood City, Half Moon Bay, and San Mateo. Experience in Midwifery, Labor and Delivery, and Spanish Language speakers will be prioritized. NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis.
