RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

-Serve at the circulation desk; check books in and out of the library and issue library cards.
-Identify overdue materials; process notices as required; collect, record and account for payment of fines.
-Answer routine informational questions; maintain a variety of clerical files.
-Receive and sort through materials donated to the library.
-Assist in processing new materials for circulation purposes.
-Assist library users with questions and technology of computers.
-Review reference collection periodically; read shelves to ensure that books are in order; weed collection as needed.
-Prepare library exhibits and displays; conduct library tours; perform simple reference work and administer children's services.
-May be assigned to assist in the general operation of a branch library; supervise branch library operations.
-Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work station.
-Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Special Requirements : Physical Requirements : In some positions incumbents will be required to perform heavy manual labor which may include such tasks as digging ditches; lifting and carrying of materials including, but not limited to cement bags, sewer pipe, and sign posts; frequent walking and/or standing, carrying or throwing shovelsful of paving material; working outdoors in all types of local weather conditions. License Required : A valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, is required prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain a valid License may constitute cause for termination from this class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. About Our Job Athletic Fields Utility Workers provide operational support for Denver's Athletic Fields located throughout the City of Denver including maintenance of athletic fields and related facilities. These positions provide the opportunity to gain a wide variety of valuable experience in athletic field and turf management while applying best practices in ensuring that Denver's community members can indulge safely in athletics and the well-being they bring. These positions will report to 678 S. Jason St., Denver, CO. The work schedule will be 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. during the week, with occasional weekend shifts required at 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Skills to be developed and utilized: Utilize and maintain various hand-powered tools and motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner Work outdoors to perform athletic field operations: Athletic field preparation including lining, dragging, laying out and squaring athletic fields with various layouts; utilizing basic math skills to ensure proper layout/measurements Athletic field repair and preventative maintenance including various turf management tasks such as mowing, fertilizing, aerating, seeding, top dressing and ensuring appropriately functioning irrigation Related landscaping duties to maintain aesthetics of ball field facilities such as edging, sodding, trimming, raking, horticultural work, etc. Various facilities and infrastructure maintenance tasks such as painting and minor repairs Interact with and learn best practices from more seasoned and knowledgeable athletic field and turf management experts; develop skills to understand how community athletic fields can best suit the needs of community athletic leagues and sports enthusiasts Snow removal operations such as plowing, shoveling, de-icing Various related duties as needed such as trash collection, bathroom maintenance and cleaning, vandalism repair and graffiti removal These are on-call positions which will work no more than 39 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits.
