Salary Range: $3,513.00/month to $4,298.00/month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary will be between $3,513.00/month to $3,906.00/month.

DEPARTMENT STATEMENT:

The California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL) department in conjunction with the mission of the University and the Division of Student Affairs work to engage all residential students in their holistic development and academic success towards retention, graduation, and future endeavors. SHRL works to sustain this mission by providing student-centered programs, services, and facilities that foster a safe, inclusive and vibrant residential learning community.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Residence Life Professional is a temporary trainee position and works under close direction with the Associate Director of Residence Life and receives direct work lead instruction from the Assistant Director of Residence Life. This trainee position will assist with addressing concerns related to at least one of three communities within the housing complex of up to 1,600 residents. Consults resources to support recruitment, selection, training, programming/curriculum design, crisis management, administrative duties, communication with families/guardians, and other related activities. Incumbent will assist with coordinating paraprofessional selection, training, payroll, and evaluation processes; adjudicating conduct issues; leading programming efforts; implementing academic initiatives and programs to support our residents' academic needs; and leadership development within the residential community.

This is a temporary, full-time trainee level position through December 31, 2020 with the possibility of re-appointment for a maximum of one year from date of hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with Advising Student Staff/Leaders
* Assist Residence Life Coordinators with advising students, including student staff, area council, Residence Hall Association (RHA).
* Assist in administrative tasks and support for Front Desk Assistants (FDA) students.
* Provide feedback at weekly meetings with area staff and assists in coordinating monthly all-staff meetings.
* Participate in weekly one-on-one support meetings with area staff.
* Provide on-going feedback and assists with periodic formal reviews for student staff/leaders.

Support Building/Area Specific Assignment
* In conjunction with the Associate and Assistant Directors for Residence Life, collaborate with faculty, staff and students to assist with providing programs that support the retention and graduation aspects of upper division students.
* Assist with the coordination of the Residence Life Office including ordering/maintaining supplies and organizing the office space.
* Support the Residence Life administrative process.
* Provide information about the Housing reservation process for program space and equipment.

Programming and Development
* Provide feedback to programming/curriculum design efforts that promote academic success, appreciation of diversity, personal development and civility within the residential community and assists with their implementation.
* Assist with ensuring set processes are implemented with regard to the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs for residents.
* Assist with reviewing individual program budgets and forwards expense requests to Assistant Director for approval.
* Serve as a programming resource for students, staff and residents.
* Assist with reviewing student activities and programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State and University regulations.
* Assist with integrating residential programs with university-wide programs including Associated Students, Athletics, Student Academic Services and Student Life.
* Support programs and assist with providing training to create an environment that attracts and supports a diverse residential population.
* Assist in the publication of the residential newsletter.

Support Conduct Process Administration
* Consult housing conduct process and hearing officers to assist in conduct referrals.
* Assist with the enforcement of the Student Housing and University rules and regulations.
* Refer student disciplinary concerns for adjudication.
* Assist with the proper training and guidance to student staff to ensure the appropriate enforcement of Student Housing and University rules and regulations.
* Assist with completing proper documentation of incidents within a 24-hour period.
* Assist with roommate mediation opportunities as an option for dealing with conflict.
* Assist with annual review of the conduct process and revises the process as needed to provide services to students.

Crisis Management in Training
* Support and provide follow-up to Residential Assistants and Residence Life Coordinators handling crisis intervention and management.
* Assist with completing the Morning Report documentation following each on-call duty rotation.
* Communicate regarding crisis situations, and keeps others in area informed of developments affecting their functions.
* Refer and connect students and families to department when issues become escalated.
* Provide support as needed.

Assist in Staff Training and Development Consultation
* In collaboration with the Associate and Assistant Directors for Residence Life, support student staff training program throughout the year for student leaders including Resident Assistants, Residence Hall Association, Freshmen Front Desk and Night Operations.
* Communicate with fellow Residential Life professional staff to assist in the coordination and implementation of student staff training and development throughout the year including retreats and monthly in-service sessions.
* Assist with the coordination of the annual national/regional training opportunities including Northern RAP, PACURH and NACURH conferences.

Assist in Housing Operations Processes
* Assist in day-to-day operations of area including follow up on building maintenance concerns.
* Assist to ensure completion of processes: room changes, check-ins and check-outs of residents throughout the year including submitting completed paperwork to appropriate Housing staff.
* Assist to ensure that all residents have a completed inventory sheet for current assignment at all times.
* Assist with facilitating periodic Housing processes, including Roommate Agreements and Health and Safety checks.
* Ensure delivery of confidential written correspondence with residents including eviction notices and sanction letters.
* Assist with completing monthly occupancy checks in collaboration with Assignments Coordinator.

Liaison/Committee Work
* Develop liaison relationships with other University departments to coordinate efforts where appropriate; specific focus on supporting summer Housing partnerships with Orientations
* Serve on summer committees for Student Housing and Residence Life.
* Assist with summer Student Housing residents
* Serve on University committees as designated.
* Participate on Housing departmental task forces and committees as designated including Staff Selection and Staff Training, Staff Training, Program Development, Professional Development.

Other Duties and Support Functions
* Represent the department during University events including Preview Day and Admitted Student Day.
* Assist with advising and counseling students on social, personal, cultural, academic and disciplinary issues.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or designee.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing.

Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
