About Our Job

Denver Parks & Recreation Youth Sports provides a fun, energetic atmosphere for kids ages 5-17. Learn the fundamentals of numerous team sports including basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, baseball, softball, coach pitch, t-ball, cheerleading, and gymnastics. Youth Sports is looking to hire Non-Certified Sports Officials for the Winter basketball season. Non-Certified Sports Officials officiate recreational activities and provide assistance to the recreation supervisor and staff. These Sports Officials will officiate games for youth, ages 9 - 17 years and adult league games. Games are held throughout Denver's network of parks, recreation centers and sports facilities.
  • Officiating at sports events that requires certification including basketball, volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse, which may include leagues of youth and young adults to maintain that game rules are observed
  • Communicates with other sporting officials, coaches, facility managers, subordinates or the public by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person in order to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss problems
  • Inspects playing surface or field to ensure that it meets the regulations of the sanctioning body and is safe for the players. Inspects sporting equipment and/or examine participants in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations
  • Signals participant or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play. Maintains control of players, coaches and spectators
  • Explains disputed calls to players and coaches
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

This is an on-call position which will work 10-30 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. All games take place in the evening and on weekends.

We hire at the levels below:

Non-Certified Official Beginner: $14.27 / Hour
  • Knowledge of the rules of volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse
  • Experience with 9-17 year olds
  • CPR/First Aid (preferred)
  • Experience officiating one or more sports volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse (preferred)


Non-Certified Official Intermediate: $16.03 / Hour
  • One year experience officiating one or more sports (volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse)
  • Experience with 9-17 year olds
  • CPR/First Aid (preferred)


Non-Certified Official Advanced: $17.79 / Hour
  • 2-3 years experience officiating one or more sports (volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse)
  • Experience with 9-17 year olds
  • CPR/First Aid (preferred)


Non-Certified Official Expert: $19.55 / Hour
  • 5+ years experience officiating one or more sports (volleyball, kickball, t-ball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse)
  • Experience with 9-17 year olds
  • CPR/First Aid


About You

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Availability during weeknights and weekends
  • Punctuality and proactive communication ahead of all scheduled shifts
  • Previous officiating experience in the above listed Youth Sports leagues
  • Willingness to work multiple sites and regions


We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:
  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: One (1) season of officiating experience in a recreational official league
  • Licensures/Certification(s): National Association of Youth Sports Certification within the first six months of hire
  • Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
