Employment Status: Full-time, Probationary, "Exempt" position.
Work Schedule: To Be Determined. Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Summary: Under general supervision of the director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the EOP Renaissance Scholars Advisor (SSP II) assists the Renaissance Scholars Program Coordinator in the coordination of the EOP Renaissance Scholars Program.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Incumbent will assist with the delivery of the day-to-day support services provided to the EOP Renaissance Scholars Program participants (current or former foster youth) including counseling, academic advising, general information regarding policies/procedures, grading system, course descriptions, etc.
The incumbent will assist the Renaissance Scholars Coordinator, with the development of EOP Renaissance Scholar seminars, workshops, events, and cultural enrichment activities/field trips.
The incumbent will monitor scholars academic progress and meet with them on a regular basis.
The incumbent will make referrals as needed to other university student support services departments. Incumbent will be responsible for maintaining accurate student records.
The incumbent will assist the Renaissance Scholars Coordinator's efforts in fundraising for program by completing prospect research on potential funders, by tracking data required to meet grant proposal objectives and with report writing needs.
The incumbent will be responsible for presenting and providing information to community groups and individuals about admissions to EOP, Renaissance Scholars Program and the university.
The incumbent will participate in the EOP Renaissance Scholars Program admissions process by reaching out to potential program applicants, providing information about program services and benefits to applicants, and collecting documentation needed (Dependency Verification Letters, etc.) from applicants to assist in determining student eligibility for the program.
The incumbent will support the Renaissance Scholars Program Coordinator in coordinating the EOP Renaissance Scholars Mentoring Program.
The incumbent will participate in foster youth advocacy and advisory councils regarding foster youth needs and services.
The incumbent will provide quarterly and annual reports of all foster youth program efforts and any other reports requested by Renaissance Scholars Coordinator, EOP Director or EOP Assistant Director. Assists Coordinator in meeting EOP Renaissance Scholars Program objectives.
The incumbent assesses students for basic needs during academic year breaks (i.e. winter, spring, and summer breaks).
The incumbent assists in coordinating Summer Bridge efforts for EOP Renaissance Scholars. Attends Summer Bridge related counselor meetings and trainings. Supports EOP Renaissance Scholars Coordinator in developing and presenting unique programming to Renaissance Scholars Program participants. Serve as back-up EOP counselor.
Assist colleagues and perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in the Behavioral Sciences, Psychology or Social Work, or a related field AND three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a student services program.
A Master's degree in School Counseling, Clinical Counseling or Educational Psychology or a directly related field is preferred.
Upper division or graduate course work in individual and group counseling, career counseling and conflict resolution is preferred.
Direct experience working with foster youth is desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Applicants must have knowledge of and strict adherence to one of the nationally recognized counselor code of ethics, including the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), American Counseling Association (ACA), or the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), depending on their educational field.
Adaptability and aptitude for solution-oriented problem solving that promotes student success.
Knowledge of professional counseling theories and techniques is desired. Applicants must have the ability to write clear and concise reports, along with the ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; troubleshoot problems.
The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse constituencies including administrators, faculty, parents, staff and students.
The ability to motivate students in a diverse multicultural setting.
Incumbent will need to be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy and discretion.
Applicants must have experience in collecting, analyzing and evaluating data, as well as making verbal and written presentations regarding their assessment of the data collected.
Experience in fundraising, and event planning is preferred as this is considered a specialized skill.
Other required skills include excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
