PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Success will serve as a member of the Department of Athletics senior leadership team and be responsible for administration of all aspects relating to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate athletics experience for student-athletes. Responsibilities include coordinating student-athlete services focused on academic advising, health & wellness, and career development as well as monitoring and maintaining compliance in regards to Title IX and gender equity. This position may be appointed to serve as the Senior Woman Administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Serve as member of Department of Athletics senior leadership team: Assists in the direction, management and monitoring of the Department of Athletics.
2. Serve as primary sport administrator for assigned sports.
3. Serve as the primary liaison between Athletics and the Center for Advising, Career and Student Success, Student Health & Wellness Services, Office of Inclusive Excellence and Office of Title IX/DHR.
4. Serve as Title IX Deputy for the Department of Athletics: Monitoring, supervising and maintaining compliance in regards to Title IX and Gender Equity. The incumbent will work closely with student-athletes, coaches and staff along with the University's Title IX/DHR office to ensure training, education and effective communication of the University's Title IX and Gender Equity rules and regulations.
5. Works collaboratively with faculty and department advisors to ensure that student-athletes understand degree requirements for the major as well as general education requirements and NCAA DII progress toward degree requirements. Also works with staff from Admissions, Retention, EOPS, and Registrar to support new and continuing students.
6. Providing oversight and leadership to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), departmental community service projects, and the NCAA DII Make-A-Wish campaign.
7. Advises Athletic Director on all student-athlete experience issues.
8. Serve on California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Executive Council: Attends conference meetings, NCAA conventions, and serve on committees.
9. Maintain department student-athlete handbook.
10. Assists with game management.

Other Functions:
1. Participates in university task forces and special projects as required.
2. Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and university policies and regulations pertaining to the Athletics Department. Working knowledge of a student information system, such as Banner and PeopleSoft. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. General knowledge of personal computer software for business functions; especially spreadsheet, database, word processing applications and email.

Ability to: effectively manage and deliver student-oriented services on a campus with a diverse student body and staff using modern management and administrative techniques related to the development and implementation of appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling and coordination; assist with the planning, organization, and direction of others in the formation of program and policy within the operation; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; train and evaluate the productivity and performance of other employees; analyze situations and take corrective action; communicate in a professional and effective manner-in both written and oral forms; and establish and maintain effective working relationships that promote professionalism and mutual respect in a multicultural and diverse academic community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND three years' experience in intercollegiate athletics; which has included training and supervising the work of others.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED:

Strong communication, management, and leadership skills. Proficient in the use of personal computers including work processing, spreadsheets and database software. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A master's degree and a minimum of two years working in NCAA intercollegiate athletics administration. Strong communication, management, and leadership skills. Proficient in the use of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above.

• This position has been designated as a sensitive position with responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property; responsibility or access/possession of building master or sub-master keys for building access; and access to and responsibility for detailed personally identifiable Level 1 confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni that is protected, personal or sensitive as defined in the CSU Information Security Data Classification Standards
• Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
• May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.

SALARY:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
