Job Description

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Mental Health Counselor II in their Children's Clinical Services (CCS) outpatient mental health program in Reno. Children's Clinical Services provides individual, family and group therapy and case management services to children ages 6 to 18 and their families with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Children's Clinical Services provides services in the home, office, and community settings. The incumbent will perform mental health evaluations and assessments through interviews with youth, families, support systems, and review of medical records including social, developmental, and medical history; determine strengths, presenting problems, resources, and eligibility for applicable programs and services; identify appropriate interventions. The incumbent will follow established protocols and policy in order to ensure quality and timely services for youth and their families. This position provides individual, family and group therapy. Treatment goals and progress are developed and reviewed in the context of Child and Family Teams. DCFS Children's Clinical Services works within the Nevada System of Care (SOC) and is guided by SOC principles and values. DCFS Children's Clinical Services has an extensive training curriculum that includes opportunities to be trained in Evidence Based Practices. This position will be cross trained to work with Mobile Response and Stabilization. This is a full-time position with a variable work schedule agreement, typically Monday - Friday, with at least one late day (until 7pm.) a week required.
