Under general supervision, supervises and directs capital improvement andmaintenance projects performed by the Harbor Department, Engineering Services Bureau; preparescommunications and makes presentations to the Board of Harbor Commissioners and third partystakeholders; oversees the preparation of preliminary studies, design packages, plan specifications,project scopes, budgets, schedules, cost estimates and contract documents; selects, coordinates andsupervises consultants and contractors; monitors project progress, contractor invoicing and payments,contract amendments and change orders; negotiates contractor claims and corrective action measures;coordinates planning, design and construction projects with other Port Divisions and tenants;supervises, trains and evaluates performance or a large group of engineering and related personnel;performs other related duties as required.REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
Applicants must meet Requirements A, B, AND
A. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or
Structural Engineering or Architecture (proof required)* OR an Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) certificaterecognized by the California State Board of Registration for Professions Engineers (proof required)*WITH
B. Seven or more years of professional engineering experience, including two years as an engineeringsection leader and two years of experience working with port, harbor or projects of similar scale andcomplexity.AND
C. Current registration as a Professional Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural Engineer or registeredArchitect in the State of California (proof required)*Additional Requirements to File:
- Knowledge of engineering software applications and proficiency with personal computers including Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to work an irregular schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- A valid driver's license and current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring departmentat the time of selection.
Program management or construction management professionalcertification and experience. Knowledge of Engineering and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) softwaresuch as Microstation or similar software preferred.*Required documents, such as transcripts, certifications, and/or registrations, must beuploaded to the application at the time of filing. Any proofs submitted must contain either theapplicant's name or other identifying characteristic on the form. Degree must indicate the fieldof study and transcripts must indicate the field of study and degree conferred date. Candidateswho possess degrees from colleges or universities from outside the United States must attachproof of educational equivalency at the time of filing.SELECTION PROCEDURE
This selection procedure will be conducted using a non-competitive process. Applications are evaluatedbased on training, experience, education, certificates and/or licenses. There is no examination. This isa continuous eligible list, which will expire in six months but may be extended. All applicants meetingthe minimum requirements to file will be placed on the eligible list. Applicants receiving Veteran's Creditfirst and then in the order in which applications were filed.
