Salary: $49,152 - $72,871 per yr
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Agriculturist III, supervised by Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Noxious Weeds Coordinator, will review and evaluate weed mitigation plans submitted by private contractors for NDOT highway infrastructure projects throughout the state. The incumbent ensures accepted mitigation plans are being followed and in doing so will inspect weed-free material sites, monitor pesticide applications performed by private and NDOT staff, identify noxious weeds at new and existing project sites, and provide decontamination procedure recommendations. Applicants must have knowledge pertaining to the identification of state listed noxious weeds and their biology, control methods utilizing integrated pest management principals, federal and state pesticide laws and safety, and revegetation practices.
