Job Description

Registered Nurses in this series conduct inspections of health care facilities and services such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, inmate medical care in prisons and transitional living facilities, intermediate care facilities, home health agencies, health care referral agencies, community triage centers, facilities for refractive laser surgery, ambulatory surgical centers, facilities for treatment of irreversible renal disease, independent physician offices, rural health clinics, hospices, comprehensive outpatient rehabilitative facilities, outpatient physical therapy facilities, adult day care and group care facilities, alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers and half-way houses, obstetrical centers, independent centers for emergency medical care, rehabilitation clinics, occupational and physical therapists, and other facilities and practitioners as directed. Examples of areas for inspection include health care services; policies and procedures regarding admission, discharge, and resident rights; and life safety code compliance. The Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance currently has a vacancy for a registered nurse to work as a health facility inspector in our Las Vegas office located at 4220 South Maryland Parkway. This position provides regulatory compliance education, conducts inspections and complaint investigations and generates reports regarding facilities compliance with requirements. The position works as part of a team or independently. Candidates with prior knowledge of healthcare regulations, procedures, survey techniques are well suited for this position. The position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with team members, medical professionals and others. A strong skill set in operating personal computers and software is desirable. The ability to communicate orally and in writing is essential for this position. The candidate must be able to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations and engage critical thinking and exercise professional judgment to make sound decisions in determining compliance. The ability to learn, remember and integrate complex concepts, or multi-step processes is required. The chosen incumbent must successfully obtain qualification by passing an examination, Surveyor Minimum Qualification (SMQT), within the first year of employment. One year of experience in a critical care setting preferred.
