The purpose of the class is to examine financial records of small to medium size businesses to determine the tax liability for business licenses and other County-required fees and taxes in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Procedures and department requirements. Work involves applying business license requirements to businesses' financial records. Junior auditors also initiate investigations and begin compliance efforts according to established procedures when businesses fail an audit, including preparing cases for and presenting them in court or other judicial proceedings. Audits conducted by the Junior Revenue Auditor relative to the Revenue Auditor I are distinguished by being less complex and less time-consuming, and are characterized as "desk audits."

A Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required. Must be able to supply written proof of completion for all course work and/or degree(s) that are being used to satisfy the minimum education requirements. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Any one or more of the following certifications are preferable:
• Accreditation in Business Licensing (ABL) certification from the South Carolina Business Licensing Officials Association, or
• Other related professional certification.

Requires a minimum of one year experience in financial or program audits and/or performance compliance in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards and Procedures, common business practices relating to the keeping of accounting books and other financial records, and tax law. Experience in local government revenue-related audits, resolution of complex tax and regulatory requirements, and interpretation and application of local and South Carolina state law is highly desirable. Must be proficient with different computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, data processing applications, and others.
