 The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning is currently offering exciting career opportunities for experienced engineering professionals for the position of Supervising Engineer.

The Supervising Engineer, reporting to a division manager, plans, directs, and manages the operations of a section or sections in the Department of Public Works and Planning. Responsibilities include planning, directing and supervising staff engaged in a variety of professional and technical civil engineering duties. Supervisory duties include selecting, training, developing, assigning and reviewing work; evaluating and disciplining subordinate staff; and communicating division policy and objectives to staff.

The current Supervising Engineer vacancies exist in the following divisions:
Design Division : The Design Division is responsible for the preparation of plans, specifications, and contract documents for various Public Works projects; traffic and transportation programs and studies; various public infrastructure facilities, consultant oversight, and handling the County's real property transactions. The division forms County Service Areas and Underground Utility Districts.

Road Maintenance Division :  The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of 3,488 miles of roadways and 550 bridges.  The Division is also responsible for all traffic engineering studies, sign shop operations, encroachment permits, transportation permits and traffic control plans.
Note : The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity. This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
