Agricultural Enforcement Officers are field agents and inspectors (peace officers) of the Department of Agriculture, and as such, enforce all State agricultural laws and regulations. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This recruitment will be used to underfill an Agricultural Enforcement Officer II. Automatic progression may occur upon the supervisor's approval and when minimum qualifications of the higher level have been met. This position works within the Department of Agriculture and is located in Ely, NV. The Incumbent will be trained to perform law enforcement duties in a Nevada Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) law enforcement academy. Upon successful graduation from the academy and under close supervision, the incumbent will be trained to provide protection of public health and safety for the residents and visitors of the state; conduct inspections, perform investigations and law enforcement duties for all livestock, stray/feral horses or animal related events or incidents to include animal health inspection requirements, theft of livestock and animal cruelty. Additional responsibilities consist of monitoring animals and agricultural products transported within or entering the state from other states and international locations; conducting traffic stops on commercial/private agricultural vehicles on roadways and carrying out inspections at highway check sites.
