Contra Costa Water District seeks a dedicated and proven leader to manage the District's information systems, desktop systems, local area and wide area networks, and telecommunications and voice-mail systems. 

Job Description

Essential Job Duties and Skills:

-Utilize a high degree of professional and technical knowledge and experience to manage the District's multiple laptop and desktop computers and networked personal computer client server systems and to provide a variety of services to District operations and staff.

-Ability to perform requirement analysis; applications and network design, development, implementation and maintenance; and database design and administration.

-Oversee development of information systems related standards, specifications and administrative procedures and practices, including systems security.

-Supervise Information Systems (IS) staff and/or consultants responsible for systems administration, analysis, and programming and reporting as well as technical staff responsible for desktop computer hardware/software, network administration, and telecommunications operations and maintenance.

-Coordinate work of the Division with other District departments to provide timely, cost-effective, integrated systems and related support.

-Manage budget for Information System department.

-Write and present staff reports and presentations.


Supervision Received and Exercised:

Receives general direction from the Assistant General Manager-Administration.   

Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional and technical staff.

Job Requirements

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: 


Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in management information systems, computer science, data processing, business or public administration, or a related field.  


Seven years of progressively responsible experience in managing multiple laptop and desktop computers and networked personal computer client server systems environment; strategic and tactical systems planning; budget administration; selecting and overseeing installation, operation, and maintenance of major information and telecommunication systems; and previous supervisory experience.  

Other Requirements:

Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Information

The essential functions of this classification are performed in a controlled-temperature office and require the ability to; regularly use finger dexterity and hand strength to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; operate equipment and keyboards; speak and hear in person and on the phone; see to read computer screens and documents and color vision to distinguish wiring and indicator lights; smell to perceive overheated equipment; intermittently sit for extended periods; stand and walk, including traversing uneven or difficult terrain in all types of weather conditions; reach with hands and arms; and twist; and occasionally bend, stoop and kneel to access service equipment and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work hours are periodically and include evening meetings. The position requires the ability to travel on District business and to visit and inspect District facilities and projects.
