Town of Eagle

Employer Description

Community Description

Located 130 miles west of Denver on I-70, the Town of Eagle is a dynamic, livable community emerging as an outdoor destination.  Incorporated in 1905, the municipality has a rich history in ranching and now is one of the preferred communities in the Vail/Eagle valley to live and work.  The current population is 6,500 year-round residents and the Town is poised to grow with the possible addition of two large planned-unit developments.  The Town serves as the Eagle County Seat and enjoys a close working relationship with county government.

The Town has many recreational opportunities.  Soft and hard path trails abound, and mountain biking trails are some of the best in the region.  Other amenities include a public swimming pool, indoor and outdoor ice rinks, BMX track, municipal golf course, bowling alley, movie theater, library, river access, robust community events, excellent parks and more.  Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service lands surround the town and offer additional recreation opportunities.  The Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas are nearby.

The Town currently has several important initiatives in progress.  The Board of Trustees has determined to improve the Town’s financial health by marketing a recreation-based economy.  A marketing and events tax was approved by voters with the intent to bring visitors to use the community’s recreation opportunities, hotels, restaurants, retail businesses. Over 30 events were approved for sponsorship with this fund in 2016. The Town has also recently ratified an extensive river corridor plan to use as a tool for future planning and economic development.

Eagle is a statutory town and conducts the following programs:  administration and finance, community development, law enforcement, engineering, street maintenance, buildings and grounds, open-space management, information center, marketing and events, and operation of refuse, water and wastewater utilities. The Town employs 38 full time workers and 8 part time/seasonal workers.
