Full-time position available with the Neighborhoods Department, Regulated Industries Division located at 635 Woodland Ave Salary Range: $23.98-$36.60/hour Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Application Deadline Date: July 22, 2024 Responsibilities Processes applications for liquor licenses, cigarette licenses, vehicle for hire permits and certificates, commercial amusement permits, adult entertainment licenses and permits, short term loan establishment permits, day labor business permits, tire dealer permits, secondary metal recycler permits, and salvage yard permits. Investigators spend approximately 60% of their time working in the office and 40% working in the field. Makes various inspections and investigations of vehicles for hire (livery vehicles, taxicabs, transportation network vehicles, sightseeing vehicles) and liquor licensed businesses, but also includes making inspections and investigations of adult entertainment venues, adult book stores, pool halls, dance halls, haunted houses, concert venues, secondary metal recycling yards, short term loan establishments, tire dealer businesses, and businesses that sell tobacco products. All Investigators may be required to write summonses for ordinance violations as observed. If a summons is written, the Investigator is required to appear in municipal court and present their case in front of a judge. An Investigator's integrity is of the upmost importance as high integrity is required in order for a person to be successful. It is only a matter of time before an Investigator's integrity is put to the test as offers of free gifts (food, beverages, and other like things) may be made to them when they are working in the field. The Investigator position requires great attention to detail. Processing an application for a liquor license can be very cumbersome and, in some cases, the ramifications of missing one key detail could bring the adverse attention of the media, City Council, City Manager, and the Mayor directly upon the Investigator and Regulated Industries Division. When working as an Investigator, report writing, and data entry make up a significant portion of the workload. An Investigator must be able to complete multiple tasks at the same time as they may be working on multiple projects on any given day. High customer service standards are also very important as the Investigator will be working and interacting directly with the public, which may include dealing with difficult people in difficult situations. Investigators may also be required to work some early morning, late evening, and weekend hours as this may be needed by the type of inspections or investigations being made. Qualifications REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years' experience in planning/zoning, nuisance housing, building construction or inspection, health, safety codes and ordinance inspection or investigations: neighborhood/community assistance code enforcement, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO. Must possess or be eligible to obtain required police commission from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.
