Ross Valley Sanitary District
Ross Valley Sanitary District was established in 1899 and for over a century has been dedicated to protecting public health and the environment. Our district operates and maintains approximately 200 miles of collection sewer lines and 19 pumping stations which collect, pump, and transport approximately four million gallons of wastewater per day to Central Marin Sanitation Agency. Our mission is to provide customers with high quality wastewater collection service through a system that has no avoidable sanitary sewer overflows at the lowest sustainable cost. Our public agency has a board of five elected officials, all of whom reside in our service area.
Our dedicated staff of 35 is organized into three work teams: Administration and Finance, Engineering and Inspections, and Operations and Maintenance. Ross Valley Sanitary District is committed to creating a positive workplace culture and actively works to foster an inclusive and engaging environment. Recently, we were featured in Municipal Sewer and Water Magazine for the success of our Core Competencies Training Program. The program has worked to catalog and document key Standard Operating Procedures which has in turn allowed the operations team to become more efficient and proactive in their work.
Ross Valley Sanitary District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) every year since 2010 for its annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
In 2020, Ross Valley Sanitary District was awarded "Small Collection System Agency of the Year" for the Redwood Empire Section of California Water Environment Association (CWEA). Many years of hard work by our staff have culminated in this prestigious award, which according to CWEA is "given in recognition of outstanding maintenance programs, regulatory compliance and safety and training procedures”. Our Flushable Wipes Aren't Flushable video was selected as the CWEA 2020 second place winner for Community Engagement and Outreach.
Ross Valley Sanitary District is in the process of a remodeling project on a 20,000 square foot building that will serve as our new District headquarters. The building is located just minutes from the current headquarters in San Rafael and will be completely remodeled and ready for move-in by late 2022.
