During the peak of our operating season (May through September) the permanent staff is supplemented by several thousand seasonal employees who work to ensure that our patrons have a positive and safe experience when visiting our sites.

    Job Description

    Duties Description

    Under the direct supervision of the Park Manager 2, SG-21 or designee, the incumbent will plan, lay out, supervise, and inspect the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled staff engaged in carpentry and related tasks. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in a safe, responsible, and proficient manner in accordance with safety standards and agency policies.

    • Supervise and perform a variety of carpentry work including constructing, repairing, and installing walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, cabinetry, and other building components.
    • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to determine work requirements and material needs.
    • Train and evaluate subordinate staff in proper methods, safety procedures, and tool usage.
    • Maintain records of labor, materials, and work progress; submit reports as required.
    • Ensure proper maintenance and inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
    • Coordinate and oversee all activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Collaborate with other trades supervisors and managers for large-scale maintenance projects or new construction initiatives.
    • Operate various hand and power tools.
    • Prepare written evaluations of subordinates and ensure they receive necessary training.

    Minimum Qualifications

    One year of experience as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Must have a working knowledge of basic and advanced carpentry techniques, including the math required for the trade.
    • Must have a working knowledge of supervisory principles.
    • Must have a basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of trades supervised other than carpentry; i.e. commercial painting, masonry, and sign-making.
    • Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks required of a carpenter, including working at height.
    • Must possess working knowledge of appropriate NYS building and construction code regulations.
