ABOUT MARIN COUNTY PARKS: Marin County Parks offers an extensive system of regional and community parks, open space preserves, and trails for public use and enjoyment. The Department consists of two divisions: The Parks and Landscape Division and the Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD). The Department is responsible for planning, acquiring, and managing the County's open space system, which includes more than 16,000 acres of open space and more than 250 miles of public trails, as well as the County's park system with five regional parks, eight neighborhood parks, and six paved multi-use paths. In addition, the Department works closely and collaboratively with private organizations and public agencies within the county that manage and preserve open space lands, parks, and protected environmental sanctuaries including Marin Municipal Water District, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California State Parks, and National Marine Sanctuaries. ABOUT THE POSITION Assignments vary and are in many locations such as the Marin County Civic Center Campus, McNear’s Beach, Paradise Beach, Stafford Lake and/or John McInnis Parks. Depending on the assignment, duties may include the following: Parks Assignments: Extensive public contact including providing information, assistance, and fee collection; planting, watering, performing fire fuel reduction, removing invasive plants, maintaining various landscaped areas in parks and preserves; baseball, soccer field and turf grass care; maintenance and minor construction of public facilities and structures. Landscape Division Assignments: Planting, watering and maintaining various landscaped areas; turf grass care and fertilization; maintenance of public facilities and structures; weeding and spreading landscape mulch; constructing fences, signs and other structure projects; drain cleaning, hand and power tool operation; grass cutting, brush removal, tree pruning for wildfire fuel reduction; learning the safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools; performing heavy, physical labor in landscaped areas; representing the Landscape Division; providing information and assistance to the public; removal of trash and garbage from landscaped areas; working with low voltage landscape electrical systems. Volunteer Coordinator Assignment: Supporting volunteer efforts in habitat restoration and other stewardship projects. Coordinating and supporting volunteer efforts and reporting volunteer accomplishments by working with experienced Field Staff and helping with office tasks such as inventory and gathering data as well as program logistics such as cleaning tools and organizing supplies. ABOUT YOU Minimum Qualifications: Some direct experience or college level education in landscape maintenance, parks operations or environmental resource studies is desirable. The CWS RN provides medical case management for children.
