There are two promotional opportunities open to regular employees currently employed by the Colusa County Probation Department.

What's this Job All About?
The Senior Deputy Probation Officer is designed to promote professional growth and leadership within the department. Employees are expected to assume leadership roles in department programs, including GPS supervision, the Work Program, Day Reporting Center (DRC) programming, and other services administered by the Probation Department.

The Senior Deputy Probation Officer also carries the expectation of serving as a mentor and resource to other staff. Responsibilities include assisting with the onboarding and training of new employees, coordinating with allied agencies, collecting and reporting program data, completing required surveys and reports, leading field operations when appropriate, and exercising sound judgment in addressing complex operational and case-related issues.

As a senior-level classification, the position requires professionalism, initiative, effective communication, and the ability to model appropriate conduct while supporting the department's mission and objectives. Employees must be willing and available to work outside normal business hours, typically in the evenings, a minimum of two (2) days per month, with additional after-hours work as needed based on departmental operations, assignments, and agency-related functions.

Supervision & Examples of Duties

Receives general supervision or direction of an assigned Supervising Probation Officer.

Exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to lower-level staff.

Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience performing duties equivalent to the County's classification of Deputy Probation Officer II.

Training :

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a closely related field.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Completion of the STC Probation Officer CORE Course.

Possession of California Penal Code 832 Certification.

Ability to obtain MRT and BTP certification within a timeframe established by the department, as required by assignment.

Possession and maintenance of First Aid and CPR certification; and completion of required Force and Weaponry training.
