The Housing and Economic Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, setting objectives, formulating policy options, and directing and evaluating the activities and programs of the Housing and Economic Department. The work of the Department includes the Office of Economic Opportunity, the Office of Creative Portland, the Waterfront Economic Development Office, the Housing and Community Development Division as well as business assistance, recruitment and retention programs, advocacy of business interests in City government, marketing, and strategic visioning. The Director reports to the City Manager and oversees a staff of 16 FTEs. The position will also be asked to serve as a project manager and lead for other City initiatives as assigned by the city manager. These areas might include assisting in preparation of the City’s annual budget and CIP process, representing the City in areas related to housing and economic development, and participating as a member of the City’s executive team. The salary range is $111,901 - $137,630 depending on a candidate’s qualifications and experience, along with excellent employee benefits.
