Pay Range: $24.67 - $30.83/hr.

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Public Information Specialist to support the Transportation and Public Works (TPW) Department in the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of public information requests under the Texas Public Information Act. This position coordinates the collection, review, organization, and release of responsive records and serves as a liaison between TPW divisions, City departments, the City Secretary's Office, Legal Department, and members of the public. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple requests and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree
  • Two (2) years of directly related experience in records management, processing requests, public information, records administration, or a related field, preferably in a local government environment
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience processing public information requests in a local government or public-sector environment
  • Knowledge of the Texas Public Information Act, records management, retention requirements, and applicable City policies and procedures
  • Experience reviewing, organizing, and analyzing records from multiple sources, systems, and departmental areas
  • Experience with redaction, quality assurance, request tracking, records management, or document review systems
  • Strong communication, coordination, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage high volumes of requests and competing deadlines

The Public Information Specialist job responsibilities include
  • Public information request coordination: process and coordinate requests from receipt through completion; assign or coordinate requests with appropriate staff; monitor requests and maintain accurate tracking
  • Records collection, review, and compliance: locate, collect, organize, and review records from multiple sources and systems for responsiveness, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the Texas Public Information Act, including redaction and quality assurance
  • Departmental and legal coordination: coordinate with TPW divisions, City departments, the City Secretary's Office, Legal Department, and other appropriate staff regarding responsive records, additional review, or records that may not be releasable
  • Documentation, communication, and review support: prepare required request documentation and affidavits when applicable; respond to questions from requestors and stakeholders; and coordinate record reviews by requestors or authorized outside parties when required
  • Technology and process improvement: utilize request management, records management, document review, and other computer applications; assist with internal procedures and standard operating practices; and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of request processing
  • Records retrieval and related duties: travel to various TPW or City locations as necessary to locate or retrieve responsive records and perform other related duties as assigned while adapting to changing priorities, procedures, technology, and workload demands

Sedentary Work - This position is primarily sedentary and involves extensive computer and records-related work. Depending on assignment, the position may require occasional standing, walking, travel between City facilities, and other activities associated with locating, retrieving, reviewing, and coordinating records. Benefits That Are Well Worth It

Medical Program

The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

• Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
• Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

Vacation

Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

Holidays

Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

Wellness Program

The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
