Essential Job Functions
- Supports the development and implementation of strategic plans related to the County’s sustainability efforts (e.g. energy, climate mitigation, climate resilience, transportation, water quality and supply, solid and hazardous waste management, building and transportation decarbonization, clean technology, economic development, housing, and/or social/environmental equity).
- Leads staff (e.g., subordinate analysts, clerical and administrative staff).
- Assists in leading the sustainability program and/or project and policy implementation as directed by the Board of Supervisors or upper management on various sustainability issues (e.g. energy, climate mitigation, climate resilience, transportation, water quality and supply, solid and hazardous waste management, building and transportation decarbonization, clean technology, economic development, housing, and/or social/environmental equity).
- Analyzes financial studies related to sustainability efforts.
- Represents the Office of the Board of Supervisors’ Chief Sustainability Office (e.g., in various meetings, workshops and conferences) for internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepares and reviews a variety of documents and presentations (e.g., narrative and technical reports, plans, financial studies, budget, grant proposals, correspondences, Board letters, contracts, memoranda, media content) related to Sustainability issues (e.g. energy, climate mitigation, climate resilience, transportation, water quality and supply, solid and hazardous waste management, building and transportation decarbonization, clean technology, economic development, housing, and/or social/environmental equity).
- Works collaboratively with County departments.
Requirements
SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:
Three years of experience at the level* of Analyst, CEO** analyzing and recommending solutions to problems in sustainability***, including at least one of the following: energy, climate mitigation, climate resilience, transportation, water quality and supply, solid and hazardous waste management, building and transportation decarbonization, clean technology, economic development, housing, or social/environmental equity.
*At the level of is defined as: You may still qualify even if your job title isn't exactly the same as the ones listed. What matters is that your experience is at a similar level - meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure. Please provide a clear explanation of your experience to demonstrate that it is at the appropriate level.

***Analyzing and recommending solutions to problems in sustainability includes one or more of the following: reviewing legislation or environmental reports, drafting policy proposals, attending or participating in meetings with advocacy or interest groups, and managing and evaluating data.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class "C" Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS 2 - Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
OUT OF CLASS EXPERIENCE AND WITHHOLD WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE MUST BE FULLY MET AT THE TIME OF FILING AND CLEARLY BE INDICATED ON YOUR APPLICATION.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience analyzing or evaluating public policies pertaining to a sustainability-related area.
- Experience formulating or implementing new public policies pertaining to a sustainability-related area.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in urban planning, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical), Environmental Science, Natural Science (Biology, Geology, Chemistry), Public Health or Public Policy.
- Experience advising or providing technical expertise (e.g., mapping, data collection and/or analysis) on sustainability-related areas in support of a public policy or programs.
- E xperience developing or implementing a stakeholder engagement plan pertaining to a sustainability-related area.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of Training and Experience based on application information, Desirable Qualifications, and Supplemental Information Questionnaire form, weighted 100%.
Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment to be added to the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Executive Office of the Board of Supervisors as they occur.
Candidates who pass the assessment and meet the criteria identified in the supplemental questions will be placed on the Eligible list.
