POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Assistant Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Recreation Supervisor in all aspects of administration, management and supervision, coordination, and planning of the recreational programs for participants enrolled or attending City programs. Includes oversight of recreation programs involving coordination, planning, and supervising of temporary staff, contractual personnel, volunteers, and participants of multi-functional recreation facilities. Work involves assisting the Recreation Supervisor in the management of recreational programs, program equipment, and program staff in the Youth and Teen program area. The work schedule is primarily weekdays, Monday through Friday; however, some evenings, weekends, and holidays are included in the work schedule and the schedule is subject to change throughout the year.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

- Type a minimum of 50 words per minute

- Current CPR and First Aid certification

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
1. Assists with daily operations of Youth/Teen recreation programs, equipment, and facilities
- Assists with coordination and researching programs, location sites, scheduling staff, and supervision of participants
- Assists in maintaining storage locations and facilities in a clean, neat, and safe manner
- Inventories, orders, maintains and cleans program equipment and supplies at various locations
- Ensures safety of guests, staff, and volunteers
- Assists with program coordination, promotion, organization, scheduling, and evaluation of recreational programs, workshops, and special events
- Explains and provides information/instructions to various individuals (guests, coaches, volunteers, temporary employees, and program contractors)
- Provides direction and oversight to all programs
- Knows current State of Colorado childcare licensing regulations
- Ensures State of Colorado childcare licensing requirements are met
- Complies with State Licensing Child Care regulations including completing appropriate paperwork
- Maintains policies and procedures for all programs
- Monitors regulations regarding safety and health records for all students
- Remains current on issues and trends in education
- Maintains a variety of records, including class rosters, student files, permission slips, purchasing, accidents, vandalism, medical records, and evaluations
- Assists in planning curriculum that develops the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children
- Evaluates effectiveness of program and curriculum
- Assists in the maintenance of various records/files such as class participation statistics, timesheets, employee files, and certifications
- Assists in recruitment, selection, orientation, training, scheduling, and evaluation of staff and volunteers
- Creates a positive environment and motivates other employees
- Provides coaching and feedback in a respectful and tactful manner
- Assists in the development of employee schedules and calendar
- Assists with all staff meetings
- Carries a City purchasing card for program purchases and follows all P-Card policies and procedures
- Assists with Rec Trac maintenance, class management, and contacting parents as needed
- Assists with promoting recreational programs through activity guides, brochures, flyers, press releases, and the web
- Assists with survey administration and reporting
- Aides in monitoring program budget and acquiring supplies as needed from local vendors, stores, and online
- Assists with organizing invoices, creating purchase orders, and tracking budget accounts when requested
6. Coach Middle School Sports programs
7. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Other Duties and Responsibilities
1. May cover the duties of the Recreation Supervisor position as needed
2. Assists with special events in other program areas as needed
The incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses and Certifications
Required :
- At least 21 years of age
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working in recreation/leisure services
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in supervising, leading, or coordinating employees
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a School aged program setting
- Must possess or be able to obtain a CPR/AED Adult and/Infant and Standard First Aid Instructor Certificate within ninety (90) days of employment
- Five (5) years of experience working with school aged ages five (5) to eighteen (18) years old in recreation and/or educational setting
- College-level courses in recreation, health and wellness, education, or a closely related subject field to the specific program area
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, Rec Trac, Adobe, Canva and InDesign or similar computer software programs
- Certifications and trainings on specific program areas required for state licensing and delivering safe programs (Youth programs)
Physical Requirements
Work is physical in nature and involves:
- Constant near acuity and hearing are needed to perform daily functions and communicate with patrons and staff
- Constant standing, walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs in a multi-level facility to observe recreation center activity and events for safety and hazards
- Frequently lifting 50 pounds from the floor to waist, 35 pounds from floor overhead; frequent carry, push, pull 50 pounds of supplies, equipment, and material up to 100 feet for event set up; occasional carrying of up to 100 pounds of equipment, supplies, and materials up to ten (10) feet
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in this position is performed indoors in an office, offsite, and at recreation centers or public schools, and outdoors in extreme temperatures.
Required Materials and Equipment
Equipment used may include computers, keyboards, copy machines, telephones, calculators, televisions, audio/visual equipment (DVD, etc.), public service announcement equipment, small hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, tape measurers, and a variety of recreational equipment and maintenance tools.

Benefit Package
The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
401(a) Contribution Rates:
Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.

- 3 to 4 years - 60%
- 4 to 5 years - 80%
- Over 5 years - 100%
