MISSION:

DEFINITION:
Provides medical services to patients in ambulatory care facilities.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides medical care on a part-time, per clinic session basis.
- Performs physical examinations, makes diagnosis and treats patients.
- Prescribes treatment, monitors patient's progress and adapts treatment as required.
- Gives or determines the need for special tests, orders laboratory tests as necessary; interprets special tests.
- Performs and provides interpretations of imaging studies; dictates findings under supervision of an attending physician.
- Consults with other physicians, allied health professionals, and other medical services regarding patient cases.
- Advises nursing and related personnel as to the administration of medication and treatment; writes physicians orders.
- Keeps medical records and charts.
- Prepares various records such as progress notes, comprehensive care plans, and summaries.
- Counsel patients and relatives about physical, medical and mental conditions; secures cooperation and/or permission of treatment from patients and relatives.
Requirements
We are looking for dedicated individuals who have:
A California State Physicians and Surgeon's Certificate* authorized by the Medical Board of California.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:

Applicants who have the required California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Medical Board of California MUST attach a legible copy of their certificate to the application at the time of filing or email it to the exam analyst at hhocking @dhs.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days of filing online.
The required license and/or certificate MUST be current and unrestricted; conditional, provisional, probationary or restricted licenses and/or certificates will NOT be accepted.

Additional Information
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information, weighted 100%.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualification:
- Post license experience in a hospital, clinic, or ambulatory care setting.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
Applicants who have passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months.
Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every six (6) months.
We will use this list to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
