Title: Probation Officer Senior - Re-Entry Specialized Caseload #P1343State Role Title: Probation Officer IHiring Range: $57,092.00 - $101,378.00Pay Band: 4Agency: Dept of Corr - Central AdminLocation: Lynchburg P&PAgency Website: www.vadoc.virginia.govRecruitment Type: Agency Employee Only - AJob DutiesSupervises a specialized caseload of high‑risk inmates; performs investigations, casework and administrative services.Effectively applies evidence‑based practices, including communication skills, principles, and techniques, to promote internal change for the probationer.Collaborates with probationer/parolee, district, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans.Makes home and community contacts in accord with case needs and supervision plans; prepares pre‑sentence investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned in a timely manner; testifies and provides sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney.Emphasis on coaching and mentoring of all line probation officers, covering vacancies, providing training for new staff, and reviewing pre‑sentence reports for the district.Minimum QualificationsExperience working in a probation and parole setting.Experience providing individual counseling; managing a caseload of adult probationers; writing and presenting reports to official or administrative entities; interviewing people for the purpose of gathering information; planning and directing projects; and training others.Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).Demonstrated experience keying pertinent information into an automated record system.Demonstrated ability to be a team player.Demonstrated leadership skills and position attitude.Additional ConsiderationsAdvanced knowledge in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Science, Counseling, or related field or equivalent applicable experience or training.Experience facilitating offender treatment groups.Experience working in a probation and parole district office.The selected candidate must be eligible and have the ability to obtain VCIN certification.Background Investigation RequirementsAll applicants are subject to a background investigation. Investigations may include fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI); local agency checks; employment verification; verification of education relevant to employment; credit checks; and other checks based on the position.Drug Testing RequirementsApplicants for a designated safety‑sensitive position are subject to a pre‑employment drug screen.
