Correctional Officer

Job Duties

The St. Louis County Jail Division (located in Northern Minnesota) hires permanent full-time Correctional Officers. These positions entail shift work (meaning days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays). There are premiums for hours worked in the evening and night along with premiums for working on the contracted holidays. No prior training in corrections is necessary; we train all new hires in our own academy right in the jail.

An employee in this class is responsible for monitoring and directing the day-to-day activities of the inmates, according to State and local policies and procedures. Duties include processing admissions and releases; maintaining security; directing inmates; assisting with medical services; documenting jail records; submitting reports as required; and operating computers and other electronic devices, fire and life safety equipment, security equipment and other jail related equipment as necessary.

Minimum Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Possession of a valid driver's license.
