Essential Job FunctionsInvestigates and evaluates assigned deaths in accordance with the Georgia Death Investigation Act, including determining scope and surveying area and formulating processing plan.Ensures the Rules of Evidence as dictated by state law are followed.Creates a visual record of the crime scene by taking photographs and/or video of the crime scene and items of evidence.Assists the Medical Examiner in all manner of processing bodies for autopsies and related post mortem actions.Testifies in court regarding observations made and evidence obtained at scenes and articulates evidence in layman terms regarding the significance of the evidence as it relates to the scientific process.Prepares and submits reports regarding processing and investigation activities.Interacts with various other professional, judicial, investigative, insurance, health, and public and private agencies regarding on‑going investigations.Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field of Forensics.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED; supplemented by any previous experience that demonstrates ability to fulfill the physical and mental requirements for the work.An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.Supplemental InformationSalary Grade: 53Status: Non‑exemptPhysical RequirementsFrequently required to lift, move or carry objects up to 50 pounds. May be required to push/pull objects in excess of 300 pounds.
