Part-Time Sworn Officer Position

This is a part-time sworn officer position with the City's Municipal Court. This is not a civil service position with the Police Department. This position provides security to the court in different areas, including the courtroom and lobby; incumbent mayexecute warrants as assigned by the Director of Court Services. Work schedule may vary and assigned as needed by the Court. This position reports to the Director of Court Services.

Examples of Work

Protects the Court by providing security for its officers and all associated with its proceedings; Maintains decorum of the courtroom; collects and retains unauthorized weapons from persons entering the courtroom; maintains order of the court lobby; Assists with court proceedings by announcing the entrance of the Judge; assembling and segregating witnesses and jurors from all other citizens during trials; answers and explains court procedures to defendants and citizens as needed; Provides collection and warrant resolution support by contacting defendants by telephone; sending warrant letters and/or postcards; executing warrants Provides administrative support by verifying correction of various vehicle violations; provide any monthly/quarterly reporting as needed; Maintains the courtroom and jury assembly room by arranging seating; maintains courtroom equipment; ensures the orderliness of the courtroom appearance; Other duties include assisting court staff with data entry; confirming addresses and phone numbers for warranted cases (skip tracing); Performs all other duties as assigned by the Deputy Court Administrator and the Director of Court Services; Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a police officer; prefer municipal court bailiff and/or warrant officer experience. Must hold a valid TCOLE Peace Officer Certificate. Must pass the bi-annual firearms qualification.

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
