Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Autism Support for College, Education & Neurodiversity Development (ASCEND) Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and ongoing operation of a structured support program for students with Autism. The position serves as the primary resource for supporting student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success through comprehensive advising, case management, and a high-touch developmental coaching model.
This is a full-time temporary 2-year position and is eligible for full benefits, including medical, dental, vision and CalPERS retirement.

The mission of the Dean of Students (DOS) Office is to serve as a resource for helping students resolve university-related issues and concerns and advance to degree. The office is committed to supporting the academic success of students by fostering the development of integrity and problem-solving skills; teaching self-advocacy and personal responsibility; and providing students with opportunities to learn and practice the fundamental principles of good citizenship, responsible leadership, and the importance of diversity in a global society.
Key Qualifications
- General knowledge of individual counseling techniques, case management practices, student development theory, and developmental coaching approaches.
- Demonstrated knowledge of executive functioning development, self-advocacy, and evidence-based strategies that promote student success, retention, and persistence in higher education.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
- General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends within the Student Services profession.
- Knowledge of research, assessment, interviewing, and information-gathering techniques used to evaluate student needs and program effectiveness.
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
- A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $69,804 - $77,951 Per Year
Classification Range: $66,480 - $94,716 Per Year
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
