Job Summary:
The school crossing guardis responsible for ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians at designated school crossings. The school crossing guard assists students, parents, and other pedestrians in safely navigating roadways, while adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Directs and controls the movement of school children and pedestrians at assigned intersections.
- Patrols an assigned intersection, directs traffic to stop, and directs school children and pedestrians across the street safely.
- Directs and manages traffic flow around school zones during arrival and dismissal times.
- Maintains a professional and friendly demeanor while enforcing safety protocols.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, school staff, and law enforcement.
- Works in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Candidate must be 21 years old.
- Prior crossing guard experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge or the abillity to learn the appropriate signals for the control of vehicular traffic.
- Thorough knowledge or the ability to learn traffic safety rules as they relate to the safe movement of pedestrians at an intersection.
- Ability to relate to school age pedestrians and instruct them on safe methods for crossing the street.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- This is a part-time position with a hourly wage of $18.00.
- Work hours: 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- The work environment is primarily outside.
