The City of Lancaster is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and safety-focused professional to serve as Maintenance Worker II - Parks. This position helps maintain the grounds and landscape of City facilities, parks, and public spaces while supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality operations across the Parks division. Duties include grounds maintenance, facility support, equipment inspection, special event support, and assisting with work crew coordination on assigned job sites.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, takes pride in maintaining City property, and can work effectively as part of a team while supporting daily park operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the Horticultural Technician in training Parks staff on procedures that support the efficient and safe completion of assigned work and projects
- Serves as Crew Leader on designated job sites to assess team performance, efficiency, productivity, and the progress of assigned work
- Assists the Parks Foreman with administrative tasks, special projects, and support of the department work team during large, simultaneous, or numerous projects
- Ensures equipment maintenance and inspection are completed prior to use on job sites
- Cuts lawns within City parks, facilities, and other designated areas
- Trims and edges around sidewalks, flower beds, and walls
- Prunes shrubs and trees to improve growth or remove damaged branches, leaves, and twigs
- Applies fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees
- Cleans grounds and removes litter
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
- Waters plants, shrubs, flowers, and landscaped areas
- Shovels snow and ice from City facility walkways and parking lots during inclement weather
- Spreads salt on public passageways to help prevent ice buildup during inclement weather
- Cleans and inspects City park restroom facilities and helps ensure rented facilities are in good repair
- Maintains equipment, including washing, servicing, and inspecting equipment on a regular basis
- Provides direct support for special events conducted at area parks as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
