Engineering Intern, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining the quality and safety of our city streets. Your work will directly contribute to our Street Preservation Program, ensuring our streets meet community standards and enhance the quality of life for our residents.
This position offers an hourly wage of between $18.50 - $23.50 based on education and experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Data Collection & Analysis:
- Conduct thorough investigations and data gathering efforts.
- Utilize the Pavement Distress Guide to accurately rate both flexible and rigid pavements.
- Accurately record pavement distress using OpenGov Enterprise Asset Management software.
- Project Planning Support:
- Support the planning and execution of street maintenance and repair strategies.
- Create project estimates in preparation for future projects.
- Access data and generate maps using ArcGIS Pro.
- Learning Opportunities:
- Learn the management and inspection strategies of the Street Preservation Program.
- Become familiar with engineering plans and contracts for construction projects.
The work environment would include a mix of indoor and outdoor work, offering diverse daily experiences.

- Assist in the inspection and administration of Street Preservation Program.
- Assist in investigating, gathering data and analyzing information.
- Perform pavement evaluations, including recognizing pavement distresses and rating flexible and rigid pavement according to criteria on pavement distress guide.
- Record pavement distress data utilizing Cartegraph OMS.
- Review engineering plans, maps, and drawings.
- Document results of inspections and assessment in a daily log.
- This position works indoors and outdoors.
The City of Olathe summer internship program will provide the following to students:

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:Experience: Entry level experience in Civil Engineering, Civil Project Management, related fields is required. Additional experience in surveying, engineering construction inspection, and GIS is preferred. Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is preferred.
Education: College student pursuing an engineering degree is required, civil preferred.
