JOB SUMMARYThe City of San Marcos is looking for energetic individuals to staff our Summer Fun Program Camp. The program provides area children, ages 5 through 11, with a fun and educational-filled summer that includes games, activities, crafts, and time outside! This is
temporary employment. The position begins
June 1, 2026, for staff training, and camp runs from
June 8, 2026 - July 31, 2026; camps run for 8 weeks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Performs child supervision duties for all program activities; administers first aid; enforces adherence to safety rules; fills out handwritten forms; performs safety inspections daily.
- Administers recreation activities on camp site including structured activities; movies, special field trips, crafts, team building activities, and outdoor adventures.
- Maintains campus site area; cleans floors; picks up trash; performs other janitorial work as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- CPR/First Aid Certification is required during week of training- administered by City of San Marcos
- Must work the full 9-week program, including training week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience working with children.
COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of City and departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols relevant to youth programs and recreational activities.
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication to interact professionally with program participants, parents, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Skill in reading and interpreting policies, manuals, and memos, and in preparing clear written reports, activity logs, and safety documentation.
- Ability to supervise children at all times and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
- Ability to apply policies and procedures appropriately while performing duties in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to foster a positive atmosphere that promotes learning, personal growth, and constructive challenge for program participants.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, vision, hearing and talking frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing occasionally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Working conditions involve indoor and outdoor work, in the heat, sun, high humidity and wind; occasionally exposed to swimming pool chemicals, slippery surfaces; noise around crowds and whistles.
