POSITION EXPECTATIONS:The Building Engineer executes engineering tasks for the Building Engineering shop, maintains the facility, and supports remodels and projects, contributing to the comfort of Ambassadors and customers throughout the LVCC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Perform maintenance and repair activities to support efficient operation of the LVCC building and surrounding areas, including:
- Demolition, construction, and alterations.
- Doors, locks, frames, thresholds, operable partitions, and movable wall systems (air walls).
- Interior and exterior walls, partitions, gates, and doors.
- Ceilings, drywall, framing, railings, exterior building surfaces, and related construction.
- Modular furniture, cabinets, bookcases, desks, bulletin boards, and similar items.
- Membrane and shingle roofing systems per manufacturer specifications.
- Sub-flooring, flooring, carpeting, vinyl and ceramic tile, and baseboards.
- Removing and installing suspended (drop) ceiling grid, including cutting, modifying, and fitting tiles to integrate fire suppression piping, heads, and related components.
- Prepare surfaces and apply paint, stain, and other finishes, including repairing fire-rated wall penetrations.
- Replace burned-out or defective lamps and tubes and assist electricians with installing wire, conduit and electrical equipment.
- Unclog drains and fixtures and assist plumbers with installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building drawings to determine the best repair methods.
- Perform skilled bench work using a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., hammers, wrenches, saws, routers grinders, fastener guns and other carpentry and maintenance tools).
- Drive motor vehicles and electric/gas carts and operate forklifts, boom, knuckle, scissor and man lifts to access elevated work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:- High School Diploma or GED, advanced technical education or certifications preferred.
- Minimum four years of skilled building maintenance experience in at least one area (carpentry, electrical, paint, or locksmith), or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
- Ability to operate aerial lifts at heights above 50 feet in accordance with safety standards.
- Ability to work from building drawings and schematics, including electrical.
- Strong team orientation; self-driven, reliable, and responsible.
- Working knowledge of safe work methods and practices and proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); Maximo experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS- Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
- Must pass an initial and annual respirator medical evaluation and fit test.
- Must obtain OSHA-aligned certification to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and other departmental vehicles.
- Must obtain OSHA 10 certification within 90 days of employment.

The individual must have the mobility to work in a typical engineering setting, e.g. in and around office buildings, commercial facilities, and/or exterior grounds that house electrical equipment and wiring, HVAC equipment, and plumbing fixtures including hot, cramped spaces such as electrical and mechanical equipment rooms. He/she must be able to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, balance and crawl, have dexterity of hands and feet. Strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment. Must be able to distinguish color, size, shape and temperature, work in high, precarious places and in all climates. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
The individual must have the ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; ability to read and distinguish color on printed materials and a computer screen; ability to hear ability to communicate in person, over the telephone and radio. Must be able to drive vehicles to various work locations.
