DCD’s main facility is located in Martinez, California, and the Department employs approximately 175 staff countywide.
We are seeking to fill one (1) Supervisor, Inspection Services position assigned to the Building Inspection Services Division’s New Construction Program.Under general direction, the selected candidate will plan, organize, and direct the work of Inspectors responsible for inspecting all phases of residential and non-residential building and grading construction for County-permitted projects. The position also conducts field inspections and investigations related to new construction and ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and County regulations.

What you will typically be responsible for:- Supervising, training, evaluating, and scheduling the work of building and grading inspectors
- Interpreting and applying complex building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and accessibility codes to new construction
- Overseeing the review of complex building plans and specifications to ensuring code compliance
- Assigning and overseeing complex field inspections and ensure quality and consistency of work
- Resolving inspection-related disputes and complaints involving contractors, developers, or the public
- Consulting and coordinating with city departments, partner agencies, contractors, and the public
- Developing and implementing work standards and policies for the New Construction program

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.
License Required: Candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License will be accepted during the application process.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience in building inspection, grading inspection or performing code enforcement work involving the interpretation and application of relevant codes and standards with a public agency; one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity or two (2) years in lead capacity.
Certificates: Possession of certifications in Residential Categories of Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical construction, AND one or more, certifications in Commercial Building construction from a recognized state, national, or international association pursuant to Health and Safety code Section 18949.28 (a). Certifications must be maintained in good standing for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:- Experience working directly with contractors, developers, and partner agencies to resolve inspection or compliance issues
- Strong working knowledge of electronic permitting, inspection, or case management systems
- Completion of leadership or management training
Selection ProcessApplication Filing and Evaluation: This is a promotional recruitment limited to current permanent Contra Costa County Merit System employees. Virtual Oral Board Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online virtual assessment.
