    Community Development Director

    City of San Pablo, California

The City of San Pablo, a vibrant and diverse West Contra Costa County community of 32,000, is centrally located along I-80 just minutes from Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco. Within its 2.6 square miles, San Pablo offers a welcoming atmosphere, a strong mix of housing and businesses, access to Contra Costa College, and a unique cultural richness shaped by its multi-ethnic population. The community’s affordability, small-city feel, and excellent regional connectivity make it an ideal place to live and work.  For more information on the region please visit Contra Costa County’s website at www.contracosta.ca.gov.

San Pablo seeks a collaborative, forward-thinking Community Development Director to lead the department following the retirement of longtime Director Libby Tyler. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented leader and skilled planner who brings strong knowledge of California land-use law, CEQA, and RHNA; excels at balancing regulatory responsibilities with creativity; and provides clear, objective guidance to support City Council and Planning Commission decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to shape San Pablo’s next chapter of housing, mixed-use, and economic development.

The annual salary range for this outstanding opportunity is $205,860 to $250,224, with a Council approved 2% COLA adjustment on July 1, 2026. Placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications.
