IntroductionAre you an aspiring local government leader looking to gain hands-on experience in city management? The city of Scottsdale is offering a paid, full-time opportunity for graduate students and recent graduate students to gain hands-on experience in local government with a focus on city management.
The Scottsdale Management Fellowship is designed to give aspiring city leaders an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a dynamic local government environment. Fellows work directly with city leaders on relevant projects that not only provide fellows with real-world and hands-on experience but also help shape Scottsdale’s future.
In addition to working on influential projects with city leadership, Management Fellows will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one mentoring with City Manager staff on management skills and career opportunities.
The hourly rate for the Scottsdale Management Fellowship is $24 per hour and will last approximately 8 weeks. If you are interested from outside Maricopa County, there is an additional $3,000 travel stipend to accommodate travel and relocation needs.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience- No experience required for this position.
- Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated within a year from an accredited college or university degree program in a field related to the department in which assigned.
- Preferred:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within the past year) from a graduate-level program
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in local government management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Commitment to learning and professional growth.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements- Depending on assignment, must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/section assignment.
