    (552339) Research & Sponsored Programs Administrative Professional II, Post-Award Grant Analyst (GA), Salary Range: $5,797-$8,445, Hiring Range: $5,797-$5,900. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs Foundation.     Position Summary: The Post-Award Grant Analyst (GA) serves as a trusted partner to Cal Poly Humboldt’s research community. Acting as the primary point of contact for faculty and staff Principal Investigators (PIs), the GA provides expert guidance and support throughout the entire life cycle of awarded grants, contracts, and trusts (Sponsored Projects). This role plays a vital part in advancing the university’s research mission by helping PIs successfully navigate project requirements and achieve their sponsored program goals.

    The Post-Award Grant Analyst manages a diverse portfolio of awards from federal, state, local, Tribal, nonprofit, and industry sponsors. In this role, the GA ensures that project activities remain compliant with Sponsor, CSU, Cal Poly Humboldt, and Sponsored Programs Foundation (SPF) regulations, policies, and procedures. Through proactive communication, collaborative problem-solving, and careful attention to detail, the GA helps minimize compliance and audit risk while supporting researchers in delivering impactful outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Post-Award Project & Financial Administration

    • Manage a portfolio of sponsored projects from award setup through closeout, ensuring accurate budgets, timely reporting, and smooth project operations.
    • Interpret award agreements and sponsor requirements to guide Principal Investigators (PIs) in understanding project terms, budget parameters, and allowable activities.
    • Provide proactive financial analysis, budget projections, and strategic recommendations to support effective fiscal management of each project.
    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to PIs and project teams, offering training and support on post-award processes, systems, and best practices.
    • Build strong collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, campus partners, and sponsor representatives to facilitate successful project outcomes.


    Compliance, Risk Mitigation & Award Oversight

    • Ensure all project activities comply with federal, state, CSU, Cal Poly Humboldt, and SPF regulations, policies, and requirements.
    • Monitor award deliverables, deadlines, reporting requirements, and compliance obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Review expenditures, cost match documentation, and subrecipient invoices to confirm accuracy, allowability, and adherence to award terms.
    • Collaborate with the Compliance Officer and internal partners to track effort, document cost share, and support audit-ready project files.
    • Identify issues requiring sponsor approval and coordinate with funders to secure necessary authorizations ; .


    Audit Support & Process Improvement

    • Assist in preparing for federal, state, and CSU audits by ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
    • Conduct internal reviews of expenditures and project activity to detect and address compliance risks.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to strengthen internal controls, refine procedures, and enhance overall operational effectiveness.


    Collaboration, Problem-Solving & Special Projects

    • Serve as a representative of the Sponsored Programs Foundation (SPF) at campus events and meetings as needed.
    • Lead or support special projects that advance SPF’s systems, processes, and services.
    • Exercise independent judgment in situations without established procedures, developing solutions and implementing action plans to support project and institutional success.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include: General knowledge and skills in grant analysis, with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree OR through a combination of education and work experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position, primarily the ability to perform complex administrative and technical duties in support of a grant analysis program.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills along with the ability to manage multiple high priority tasks simultaneously, set priorities that accurately reflect the importance of job responsibilities under changing business conditions, and consistently meet mandatory deadlines while ensuring high standards of service;
    • Sound reasoning, analytical skills, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to integrate a broad range of information sources, analyze them and apply the knowledge to the area being appraised along with the creation of appropriate supporting documentation;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, professionalism, and judgment in decision making and higher level communications;
    • Attention to detail and accuracy;
    • Demonstrated ability to make oral presentations to individuals or groups to enhance understanding of applicable policies or procedures;
    • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs;
    • Ability to analyze a variety of complex regulations, apply sound judgment, draw logical conclusions and find creative solutions to a variety of problems;
    • Demonstrated experience in efficiently and effectively delegating and overseeing work results of administrative support staff;
    • Proven ability to work in a polite and professional manner under pressure;
    • Demonstrated ability to foster, establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse constituencies;
    • Commitment to promote and support diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Comprehensive understanding of post-award grant analysis, governmental accounting principles, sponsor reporting requirements, and OMB Uniform Guidance;
    • Experience in an Institute of higher education or a sponsored projects workplace;
    • Experience in budget planning, monitoring, and reporting;
    • Prior or current involvement with NCURA, SRA, COGR or similar professional organizations;
    • Bachelor’s degree.
