    The Job

    All interested candidates must be on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List (SEL), including a valid CA Paramedic License OR Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) Certification by the close of the application period.

    *Note: Pre-announcement advertised prior to application period to give you the opportunity to complete the requirements. We anticipate the start of the application period to be on January 3, 2026.

    Minimum Requirements

    FCTC SEL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Possess a valid driver’s license - MUST upload to your profile AND keep current
    • Have a high school diploma or GED - MUST complete the education field in your profile
    • Possess a valid Cal-JAC CPAT Card - (CPAT results are uploaded automatically by FCTC)
    • Receive a passing score on the FCTC Written Test - Written test score expires 12 months from date taken
    License:
    • A valid California Paramedic License or Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) Certification.
    • A copy of your paramedic license must be on file with and verified by FCTC.
    • A copy will be required to be attached to your application.
    • California Paramedic Licenses and NRP Certifications must be current and in good standing.
    Certifications:
    • Current ACLS & CPR/BLS- copies will be required at the time of application.


    How to be placed on the FCTC list: Please visit www.FCTConline.org for more information on how to register for upcoming CPAT physical ability tests and written tests. Information and study materials an be found on the website along with information about financial hardship grants and testing fees.

    Candidates will be responsible for obtaining CA Paramedic License (if qualifying with NRP Certification) and ICEMA Paramedic Accreditation prior to Tower completion.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess three (3) years experience as a Paramedic, and possess ICEMA Paramedic certification.

    Selection Process

    Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a medical skills assessment.

    Professional Firefighters

    The County of San Bernardino offers a range of benefit programs for employees and their eligible dependents. These include health, and a variety of voluntary benefits. Programs and benefit amounts vary and are based on bargaining unit, family size, hire date, plan selection, and number of hours worked.

    A summary of benefits is provided below. Refer to the appropriate MOU, contact the County's Employee Benefits and Services Division at (909) 387-5787 or visit the Benefits website for more detailed information at hr.sbcounty.gov/employee-benefits/ .

    MEDICAL: The County offers a variety of comprehensive health plan options to fit individual needs. Premiums are partially subsidized and paid to the plans. The MPS amount shall be $176.16 for employee-only coverage, $376.59 for employee +1 coverage, and $516.08 for employee +2 or more coverage.

    VISION: County paid for employee and optional purchase for eligible dependents.

    MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT: Flexible Spending Account (FSA) that helps participating employees lower their taxable income. Under this plan, employees elect to set aside pre-tax money each pay period to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses for themselves and their eligible dependents that are not paid by insurance or reimbursed by any other benefit plan.

    DEPENDENT CARE ASSISTANCE PLAN: This is a type of Flexible Spending Account (FSA) that helps participating eligible employees lower their taxable income. Under this plan, employees may set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified childcare or dependent care expenses that are necessary for the employee and/or spouse to continue working.

    VACATION: After completion of the requisite hours of continuous service (based on the bargaining unit), employees are eligible to use accrued vacation allowance. Depending on length of service, employees may accrue from 112 to 224 hours annually.

    DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are eligible to participate in the County's 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a supplemental retirement Plan that permits employees to defer a certain portion of their pre-tax salary, within certain Internal Revenue Service (IRS) limits, to an account maintained by an investment service provider. Participating employees postpone paying taxes on the deferred portion of their income.

    RETIREMENT: The County is a 1937 Act employer using a Tier 1: 3% at 50 or Tier 2: 2.7% at 57 retirement formula. Employees may choose to designate contributions as either refundable or non-refundable. The County does not pay into the Social Security system; however, it does contribute to Medicare.
