San Bernardino County Probation Department seeks
Probation Assistants who support Probation sworn staff while performing a variety of routine, non-sworn support functions; maintaining confidentiality, interviewing adult and juvenile clients referred for pretrial services, orientation or probation supervision; obtaining information from clients, offenders, probationers, and family members of clients to complete family/personal history statements, face sheets or other documents, assists clients with completing necessary forms and paperwork; takes photographs and collects urinalysis and DNA specimens from clients as directed. These positions will also assist with coordination, tracking, and researching of departmental programming, services, and treatment activities while performing data management and documentation tasks. Position responsibilities also include supporting Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in program delivery through scheduling, communication, and collection of required program information and participating in the evaluation of program effectiveness.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check that may include a polygraph prior to appointment.
Availability: Incumbents may be required to work nights and weekends.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsApplicants must meet
both the education requirement and one of the experience options.
Education Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or a U.S. Department of Education approved High School Equivalency Test.
-AND-
Experience Option 1: Two (2) years of full-time work experience performing clerical and data entry functions in an office environment, public contact, customer service, to include eliciting personal information, and interpreting mandates, policies, procedures and regulations.
Option 2: One (1) year of full-time clerical work experience, as listed in Option 1, in a Probation Department.
Option 3: Thirty ( 30) semester / Forty-five (45) quarter units in psychology, sociology, criminology, criminal justice or other closely related behavioral science*
- AND- One (1) year of full-time work experience, as listed in Option 1.
Option 4: Six (6) months of related volunteer work in a Probation and/or Correctional environment
-AND- One (1) year of full-time work experience, as listed in Option 1.
*A list of coursework in a qualifying field or legible copies of transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) are preferred and must be submitted with the application if qualifying under option 3.
NOTE: The Probation Assistant classification is not a natural progression into the Probation Officer series
