    Job Description:

    Purpose:

    Under general direction, supervise and perform activities of public event work crews that set-up, tear down and perform janitorial services for conventions/events/trade shows/etc. in a public assembly/event facility

    Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Reviews event preplans/event set-up diagrams with Event Coordinators to ensure adequate staff and time to perform convention/event set-ups and room change-overs.
    • Troubleshoots plans and work schedules for items that may negatively affect the client's event and/or operations of the facility.
    • Assist in the development and enforcement of department/facility safety and operational policies and procedures.
    • Assists in the development of division/section budget.
    • Assist in the development and enforcement of departmental/facility safety and operational policies and procedures.6. Compiles data and information for bid estimates.
    • Monitors, inspects and maintains supply inventory.
    • Attends meetings and planning sessions as work group representative.
    • Inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
    • Answer visitor/client questions and provide assistance.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of convention center or public event facility event planning.
    • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
    • Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
    • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
    • Knowledge of supervisory techniques and principles.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill data analysis and problem solving.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Skill in using computers and related software.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in a convention center, public assembly/event facility or other related facility/industry and one year of which was in a lead/supervisory capacity.
    • One (1) additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for the required education, with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Appropriate level of Driver License and certifications as specified for the individual's job.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with convention center facility event operations.
    • Experience with building stages.
    • Experience with various types of equipment: brooms, mops, vacuums, buffers, forklifts, ride on sweepers, ride on scrubbers, extractors and ride on extractors.
    • Experience in providing leadership to a work group, including daily operations, personnel assignments/scheduling, guidance and direction.
    • Forklift Certification.


    Notes to Candidate:

    Salary Range: $26.86 - $32.43 per hour

    Location: Palmer Event Center

    Days and Hours:
    • Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and have the ability to work a rotating schedule if needed: morning, mid-shift or evening.
    • Assigned work hours will vary based on scheduled events and business needs; which may include working weekends, evenings, overnights and/or holidays.

    90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:

    Essential Personnel:
    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. Essential Employees may be called back in during such events, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a City-designated work site, or retained on-site to assist with operations and recovery.

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
