The Position Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Nevada State Controller's Office is recruiting for an Accountant 3 underfilling for an Accountant 1 (ACFR) in Carson City, Nevada. This incumbent may be required to work overtime during financial and federal reporting, fiscal year end, and periodically based on agency need. Accountants in this series perform the highest level of financial reporting. Incumbents work in the State Controller's Office and produce the State's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), which is audited by an independent public accounting firm, is essential for obtaining bond ratings, and is required for the Single Audit Report; implement Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements; assist agencies with accounting issues and document processing; approve agency documents and work programs; provide support to agencies on the accounting system; review underlying accounting records for compliance with GAAP/GASB/federal regulations and reporting requirements, Accounting Policies and Procedures, and NRS; prepare monthly bank reconciliations, IRS reporting, and assist with the Single Audit processes.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, able to work within established deadlines, maintain a good working relationship within a team environment, prepare thorough and accurate fiscal reporting, able to apply critical thinking skills by researching, analyzing, and interpreting state and federal regulations, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and maintain a high standard of professional integrity and confidentiality. The incumbent is essential in making recommendations regarding internal controls and ensures that fiscal policies and procedures are followed. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or closely related field and two years of experience performing professional accounting work; OR Bachelor's degree in business administration and three years of experience performing professional accounting work; OR one year of experience as an Accountant II in Nevada State service. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
