The Division The Community Services Division (CSD) empowers and supports residents, schools, and local organizations to make the city more livable, safe and clean. CSD is comprised of three core service program areas-BeautifySJ, Grantmaking for Community Impact,and Youth Intervention Services. Overseen by a Deputy Director and two Division Managers, there are 161 full-time equivalent employees and an operating budget of approximately $520 million along with various sources including State, Federal and other special funds.
BeautifySJ The BeautifySJ Program conducts blight reduction, community beautification, neighborhood engagement, and encampment management services. Services include the graffiti removal program, illegal dumping program, neighborhood dumpster day program, neighborhood litter removal program, a recreational vehicle pollution prevention program, encampment trash removal and mitigating impacts program / abatement, a clean gateways and a cash for trash program.
Position DutiesThe Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill multiple part-time unbenefited Regional Park Aide positions.
Applicants can expect to work weekends, holidays, and nights.
The duties of this position will consist of:
- Assist with public contact and engagement during Dumpster Day and cleanup events.
- Support litter pickup and other cleanup activities.
- Collect data through sign-in sheets and volunteer forms.
- Provide information and assistance to the public.
- Perform routine maintenance and general cleanup tasks.
- Prepare for and monitor traffic control at cleanup events.
- Perform related duties as required.
Possess ability to:
- Move between/within work areas, including but not limited to sitting, walking, and standing on various surfaces, turning, bending, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements;
- Lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and supplies weighing on average 25 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment;
- Communicate in person and over the telephone;
- Maintain professional demeanor during interactions with staff, customers, and the public.
When assigned to fieldwork, possess ability to:
- Work in an outdoor environment with unpredictable working conditions including but not limited to exposure to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions , and odors.
Minimum Qualifications Education Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate)
Experience Completion of six (6) months (approximately 1040 hours) of work in a concession operation, customer service-oriented operation, retail business, or public service operation that has direct public contact.
Required Licensing Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.

Multi-Tasking - Can handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously; has handled a wide variety of assignments in past and/or current position(s).
Reliability - Completes quality work assignments in a timely and efficient manner; fulfills responsibilities and maintains confidentiality as appropriate.

Part-time positions(less than 40 hours per week) are required to participate in the City’s PTC 457 Deferred Compensation Plan per Federal regulations. Employees are required to contribute 3.75% of gross earning and the City contributes a matching amount of 3.75%. This plan is in lieu of social security and does not include any healthcare benefits or contributions.
