    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Reporting Location: 4200 Leeland
    Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Performs daily customer service activities including reviewing accounts, customer bills, and addressing customer inquiries to ensure accurate and timely service.

    The Customer Service Representative I duties will include but are not limited to:

    • Research, analyze, and resolve routine customer accounts and inquiries through various communication channels, including phone, email, and written correspondence.
    • Review customer bills and adjustment requests to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies
    • Process customer payments, set-up payment plans and assist with account inquiries, delinquent notices, and billing adjustments.
    • Educate customers on available programs, initiatives, and service options.
    • Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to resolve billing or account-related issues.
    • Perform data entry and maintain accurate customer records in the billing system.
    • Refer customers to appropriate departments or outside agencies for additional assistance when necessary
    • Create and track work orders
    • Perform other related duties to support departmental operations.


    WORKING CONDITIONS
    This position is physically comfortable with discretion of walking, standing, etc. Essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    This is a Houston Public Works Department Position at the Tier Ill Level.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Six months of administrative or customer service-related experience is required.

    Substitution: An Associate’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    None.

    PREFERENCES

    Preference will be given to applicants with Call Center, Collections, and/or Utility experience.

    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
    However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

    If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

    SALARY INFORMATION
    Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

    PAY GRADE 13
